BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DISTRIC
District Khanewal
was created in 1985 out of the two tehsils of Khanewal district namely Kabirwala
and Mian Channu. Its boundaries meet districts of Jhang and Toba Tek Singh on
the North, Sahiwal district on the East, Vehari on South and with district
Multan on West. District Khanewal is spread over an area of 4349 square
Kilometres and comprises the three tehsils of:
1. Khanewal
2. Kabirwala
3. Mian channu
CLIMATE AND GENERAL SOIL
CONDITIONS.
District
Khanewal has an extreme climate i.e. very hot in Summer to the extent of 48.4ºC
and cold in winter upto 1ºC. The land of the district is very fertile and plain.
However, some portions of Khanewal and Mianchannu tehsil consist of sand dunes.
The river Chenab flows on its north and the river Ravi on its North East side.
Small area of tehsil Kabirwala is flooded during monsoon season. The average
rainfall in the district is 93 mm.

Road-Links
The district has a total metalled road-length of 1208 Kilometres. The
district is linked with Multan, Lodhran, Sahiwal, Vehari and Jhang
districts through metalled roads |
Rail-Links
The main Peshawar-Karachi railway line passes through Khanewal district.

GENERAL QUALITY AND AVAILABILITY OF SUB-SOIL WATER.
Under ground water resources are generally adequate through out the
district. The sub soil water is sweet through out the district and
suitable for industrial purposes |
EFFLUENT DISPOSAL FACILITIES.
There is no mentionable
nullah available in the district. However, effluent of industry can be
disposed off in the rivers namely Chenab and Ravi after pre-treatment with
permission from Irrigation and Power Department, Government of the
Punjab,. |
POWER SUPPLY.
There are 7 grid stations in the district (ranging in
capacity from 66 KV to 132 KV). |

GAS AVAILABILITY.
Natural gas is available in Khanewal, Jahanian, Mian Channuin and
Kabirwala Tehsils |

There are 26 telephone exchanges operating in the
district (ranging in capacity from 200 lines to 7200 lines). Cellular
phone services are also available in the district. |
